Week 25

hello everyone!

this week was very interesting in Jinhae! my companion is a really good missionary and we are always working hard here. This week we met with a few different people. Im still trying to figure everything out and memorize people's names, but its a slow process. So in the Jinhae ward we have a few recent converts that we meet with and teach. We met with one named Pak young min who is really funny, he has a little physical limitation and isnt that coordinated, his head shakes a little bit, and sometimes he clears his throat kinda like Gaulum  from lord of the rings haha but we are like best friends even though we cant speak that much to each other. another recent convert is kim ik su and weve played basketball together a few times. We meet with his younger brother kim hi su and teach his younger brother. Kim hi su isnt a member because his parents dont like church and he will have to wait until he is 18 to get baptized. So we met with him and taught him about the plan of salvation for a few minutes. As far as investigators go, there are a few here but we havent been able to meet with them this week. We met with one for about 10 minutes while he exercised. the other 2 just cancelled our appointments and said they were busy, but elder Choi said that one of them is progressing, the other one always is busy so we might drop him. I met lots of people from the ward on sunday and they all seem really nice! we actually have 1 american family that comes, the evans. Brother evans is in the military but none of them speak korean.
So far, Jinhae is pretty good, im still getting my feet wet so ill have more next week! love you all, thanks!

Week 24

hey everyone,

so.... I got transferred again this week! I Left Gupo today and now im in an area called Jinhae. Im super sad to leave Gupo, it seemed like things started slowing down these past couple of weeks and then picked back up recently before i left, so i really wanted to stay, but thats ok! So this last week, we actually got a referral of someone that wanted to learn english so we met with him this week, he is 36 years old and is a Physical Therapist. His name is Kim Dae Hyun. he isnt married and doesnt have a girlfriend so he has a lot of time on his hands after work. we actually met with him 3 times last week. We talked with him for 30 minutes about english and then 30 minutes about the gospel. His english is not very good haha the first time we met with him, he just spoke korean almost the whole time. but hes getting better. He couldnt pronounce the
difference between "friends" and "plans". it was kinda funny, he just pronounced the two like plans, and plAAns, me and elder day were both holding back smiles haha he tried really hard though which was good! we talked to him a little about the plan of salvation and how its helped us. we gave him a book of mormon the first time, and a plan of salvation pamphlet the second time and when we met the 3rd time he said that he couldnt understand any of it. I really wanted to teach him more but Im now in Jinhae!! Ahh.. also last week one our investigator friends accepted baptism and will be baptized next week! and i wont be there either! haha ahh shoot... Min Jay is his name, he is 14. it looks like our other investigators wont be getting baptized though because of their parents. Jong Min, the most excited about baptism doesnt come to the church to hang out anymore and doesnt come to church so thats a bummer... anyway, it was a really good week! lots of good things happened in gupo! My new companion is elder Choi won sok! he seems pretty cool so far! see you next week!

Week 23

hello everyone!

happy new year, hope it was good for you all! This past week wasn't too special for new years, we didn't really do anything out of the ordinary. In the morning, we went with some of our youth up a big mountain to see the sun rise for the first of 2014 but it didn't work out too well! haha we finally got up on top of the mountain around 8 in the morning and the sun wasn't up yet. it was blocked by another big mountain and we would've had to wait for another hour or so just to see the sun so everyone wanted to leave haha so we didn't see the sunrise, we just hiked a little bit. Then we had breakfast at a members house which was like kimchi and mandu soup! probably the best mandu i've had in korea actually. then later that day we had a youth activity, the youth were at the church all day and we played soccer, ping pong, and card games with them. some of our investigators came and we all played together. the day after new years day was really good though! we randomly called this guy we met before and he said we could meet with him! his name is daniel, we talked with him a little bit before. weve tried calling him but the last too times he didnt answer. haha funny story, so when i called him i asked him what he was doing and he said very seriously, "Im making a poop" after i asked again what he was doing, he said the same thing haha my companion and i started laughing and he just said "why you laugh? why you laugh?" but then he started laughing too so it was all good! haha we met with him later, just talked to him about whatever, and then he told me he went to Seoul a few weeks ago to go to a prayer service. he apparently goes to one of the biggest churches in the world, i think its a christian church. So we talked to him about god and about prayer. he said that he should pray more and read his scriptures more so we invited him to do just that and promised him blessings! I feel like we get along very well with him, but before he left, we prayed and then he said that he has been praying for friends like shadrach, meeshack, and abednago and he finally found them! Us! haha kind of a shocking comment, but if thats the case, then we should be able to meet with him much more often! such a cool miracle! on sunday, we met with one of our investigators friends dong hyun. we watched the restoration video and talked to him about the book of mormon. he actually prayed at the end of our lesson and it was really good! The Zone leaders were actually suposed to teach him but they got busy so we got to teach him. He said he would read the book of mormon everyday and pray! and then sunday night we were with our other investigators and just talked with them for a little bit. really good week!
